I have to share Mom’s BBQ Sauce with you. It has been our family favorite since I can remember. It is a thick sauce that can be used on chicken, beef or pork ribs, pork loin, anything that needs a BBQ sauce. Make sure you separate the sauce that you brush on the meat from the sauce that you are going to use on the table or store in the refrigerator.
Makes: 2-plus cups (Sauce can be easily doubled or tripled)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 2 hours
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
½ cup celery, chopped
¾ cup water
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- In a medium size saucepan, mix all of the ingredients together and simmer over low heat for at least 2 hours.
